Ancestors & Relations of Tom Lolley born 9 May 1889 Elvington, Yorkshire, England

Notes

Alfred Earnest Lolley

Died aged 77 at 15 Poppleton Rd, York. He was a Clerk.

Mary Ann Dancer Buttle

Died aged 75 Lived at 15 Poppleton Rd, York.

Herbert Goldthorpe

~He is an ancestor of Suzanne Smith

Arthur Hoskins

Arthur was a Sailor when he got married and his abode was 101 Petergate, York. On Freebmd whic for the year 1895 is almost complete with repsect to Births there is an Arthur Hoskins born in Hull Vol 9d page 314 in the 1st Quarter of 1895. Could this be a reson why Arthur was a Sailor, because he lived in Hull which has a long tradition of boats etc???
See his Fathers notes about a possible marriage for his parents.

Helena Louise Lolley

She was living at 22 Acomb Road, York, when she got married.

George Lolley

This George may be the same person as George the son of Thomas Lolley and Ann
Durham Born 1796. All I need is to find George on the 1871 Census, to find out
how old he is. The only other possibilty is George Lolley Born 1829 who married
Margaret Renold, though I am sure I have seen them on the 1871 Census as man
and wife ie Margaret was not dead!

Well Typical as Family History is, the results of the 1871 Census don't match
up with either of the above hypotheses!! It says George was 61 at that time,
and was born in Ellerton, Yorkshire. There are no George's born in 1810 that I
have found yet, but there is one Christened in the right place, Ellerton, in
1807. I am currently assuming that this is the correct George! 15 Apr 1996.

Also, George had been previosly married, though I am not sure who too, nor if
he had been married more than once! On the 1871 Census, there is a Daughter called Harriet, who is 14 years old, hence from George's previous Marriage..... She was born at East Cottingwith.
They were living in Osbaldwick village at the time of the Census.

Could this previous marriage be to Lidia Cawkes. A couple called George Lolley married Lidia Cawkes 23 Nov 1829 at Osbaldwick. This fits perfectly with the age of George, and also the place matches with the fact that very few Lolley families moved into the village of Osbaldwick.

~George and Lidi were sealed 8 Aug 1980 at the Logan Temple.

Joseph Lolley

I have a note :

Did Joseph marry Sarah Calvert, 26 Sep 1836 at Holy Trinity Goodramgate, York??
!If so, then Ann must have died at or after the birth of Harriot.
!To Prove this, it would be useful to look at the 1851 Census for York, Probably St Cuthbert's Parish.

Ann

The place and date of Birth that I have put here for Ann is based on the children been norn in York, and perhaps Ann was from York. However, I could be wrong. Finding the marriage would be a big help!

Joseph Lolley

This marriage was by licence, which has to imply the need of parental consent, unless they were old enough and just wanted to do it this way.

From the 1841 Census:
1841 CENSUS RICCALL N. DUFFIELD DERWENT COTTAGE

LOLLEY, JOSEPH 55 FARMER
ELIZABETH 55
THOMAS 20
ANN 15
--- MARY BELL 20 F.S.

Ann Baxter

I have a note written 8 Feb 1996 taken from the Parish of Hemingbrough which is on a microfilm at the Borthwick Institue in Peaseholme Green, York. It states that Ann, Wife of John Lolley of CLiffe, Farmer died 7 Jun 1786 aged 22 years, of comsumption. Buried 9 Jun 1786 at Hemingbrough.
This fits in nicely with the birth of Ann Baxter, though I have already ascribed her a burial date of 7 apr 1846 at Hemingbrough.
If Ann diid die in 1786, then did John remarry someone called Ann for whom the three later children could be born too??
