John Francis was married three times. (1) On 14 Mar 1885 in Craighurst, Vespra Twp. Married Mary Jane McDougall, born 1865-66, dau of William & Isabella McDougall. She died 12 May 1886. (Death Cert. #016520). Born 1865-66. (2) Married by License on 9 Aug 1886, Annie Rock, widow, b 1682, Orangeville. Her parents were James & Caroline Harris. Annie was a widow, husband Samuel Hilton Rock. ( At this time, John Francis was streetcar driver in Toronto). (3) Married Margaret Elizabeth (Bulmer) Maiden name unknown. Died age 73 on 21 Mar 1932. He went to Taylorton in 1902, where he was employed at the W. L. Hamilton M & S and Tatlorton Mines three different times. He homesteaded three miles east of Bienfait and then moved into Bienfait in 1926, Main Street.

Newspaper Clipping, Thurs, 11 May, 1944 in "The Mercury", Estevan, Sask. FRANK BULMER PASSES The death occurred in Chris Wanner's barbershop on Saturday morning, May 6, of an old and respected resident of Bienfait in the person of Frank Bulmer. For some years Mr. Bulmer had been in failing health and had walked uptown accompanied by his daughter who left him waiting his turn for the barber chair....sat down....collapsed and passed away almost immediately. Mr. Bulmer was born in Staynor, Ont, in 1862 and came to Taylorton in 1902 where he was employed at the W. L. Hamilton, M. & S. and Taylorton Mines on different occasions. He homesteaded three miles east of Bienfait and afterwards operated various farmers' mines in the vicinity of Taylorton and Roche Percee. He moved to Bienfait in 1926 and erected a bungalow on Main Street. Mr. Bulmer was always very proud of his garden which has always been for many years among the best in the village....he was prominent in Orange Lodge circles and was a member of the United church. He is survived by the following daughters: Mesdames J. Morrison, Vancouver; H. Potter, Taylorton; E. Brown, Moose Jaw; D. Graham, Bienfait; D. Palmer, Winnipeg and C. Harrell, Indiana, USA. One son, Henry of Chicago and one stepson residing at King City, Ont., also survives him. His son Frank died overseas during the first Great War. Also surviving, are four sisters and two brothers. Interment was made in Bienfait cemetery and members of L.O.L. No. 2179 and Mr. Val Doerr acted as pallbearers.

Newspaper Clipping: MRS. J. F. BULMER DIED SATURDAY AGED 63 YEARS Popular Bienfait resident and well known old-timer passes away after Short Siege of Pneumonia. Mrs. J. Frank Bulmer died at Bienfait on Saturday ate the age of sixty three years, following a short illness from pneumonia...The late Mrs. Bulmer was born in Nova Scotia, and later moved with her parents to Stainer, Ont., where she was married to the late Jas. Rock. One son was born of this union, Jas. Rock, who is now a resident of Toronto. Two years after the death of her husband, Mrs. Rock married J. Frank Bulmer, the ceremony taking place in Toronto. The couple came west and took up residnence near Taylorton twenty fours years ago, and have been well known and popular residents of that district ever since. The husband, prominent farmer of the Bienfait district, and seven children survive: Mrs. Jos. Morrison, Bienfait; Mrs. Harry Potter, Bienfait; Mrs. Dave Palmer, Winnipeg; Mrs.Harry Brown, Moose Jaw; Mrs. H. Griffen, Calgary; Mrs. Harold, Springfield; one son Harry Bulmer, Chicago. A son, Frank Bulmer was killed in the great war. ...... Six years ago Mr. and Mrs. Bulmer made a trip to Nelson, BC, and from there to the old home in Toronto, where they thought they might take up residence, but their desire to remain in the west led to their return, and they have been resident near Bienfait ever since. Last fall they rented their farm and moved into the village.

ANNIE HARRIS: Annie & Samuel Hilton Rock had one son, James Burgman Rock. On birth certificate, he was listed as "Bigman". Registrar used phonetic spelling ?

GEORGE OWSTON 1635/6-1675
George Owston Yeoman of Sherburn left a full Will which gives quite a lot of information about the distribution of his lands. His Will is registered in Vol 57A, folio 81v, 1675. George married in a Commonwealth marriage ceremony Mary Moore of whom I know little, but she died in 1676. Interestingly he was buried under the floor of the Church (now rebuilt) at Sherburn.

In the name of God Amen I George Owston of Sherburn in the County of York yeoman sicke in body but perfect in mind praised be to God doe here make my last Will & Testament in manner and forme as followeth. First I bequeath soule unto the hands of almighty God and to his son Jesus Christ in whoem & by noe other means I whope for salvation and my body to be buryed in the Chancell of Sherburn as for the rest of my goods I bequeath as followeth Imp. I give unto John Owston my eldest son five tenth pounds to be paid within twelfe month after my decease Imp. I give John Owston my son six oxgang of arrable land in the teritories of Sherburn when he cometh at age and the house within I live to him and his assigns for ever provided the estate the house by my wife to my Itm. I give unto Mary Owston my wife my house within the premise belonging the same which is up in the house to her during her natural life Item I give unto my wife the house wherein I live with the premises one oxgang of land the huke in the Ings to her during her widdowhood. Marry and like wise the huke in the Ings. I give to my son Peter Owston to enter when he is at age to him and his heirs for ever and like wise the oxgang of land with the premises I give to my son Thomas Owston to enter when he commeths at age to him his heirs for ever Itm. I give unto George[sic] Owston my eldest daughter twenty five pounds when she cometh at age or happen to marry for her full and felial portion... I give unto Mary Owston my second daughter twenty five pounds when she cometh of age or happen to marry for her full fillial portion if it please God that either of them shall dy before they attain age of marry the other shall receive her portion, Item It is my Will that if in case my wife be with child at my decease that my son Johmn Owston shall pay to it when cometh at age twenty pounds the tuition of my children Grace, Mary, John, Francis, Petter and Thomas. Item I give unto Mary my wife Itm. I give unto George son of Thomas Owston one ewe and one lamb Item I give unto Jane Ringrose daughter of Will Ringrose one ewe and one lamb. All the rest of my goods and chattels moveable and unmoveable my debts and funerall expenses dyscharged I give unto my wife Mary Owston and my three youngest sons Francis Owston, Peter Owston and Thomas Owston whom I make executors of this my last Will and testament all former Wills revooking. In witness wherof I have set my hand and seale George Owston his mark. Son Francis my second son and to his heirs for ever for by a good and affeasable estate inheritance Witnessed by us Thomas Owston, Henry Leadson.

Peter Owston of Cayton, a house carpenter a younger son of George left a full Will made on the 6th February 1712/3. Peter married Dorothy Owston 1680-, the daughter of John Owston the elder, a descendent of the Ganton branch of the family. After his death Dorothy, a childless widow, remarried at Cayton.

John Owston my eldest brother one shilling, Francis Owston my brother one shilling, Thomas Owston my brother one shilling, unto Grace Owston my sister one shilling, I give unto Mary Owston my sister one shilling, Matthew Owston my nephew the son of Francis Owston the sum of five shillings, Jane Owston my god daughter daughter of Thomas Owston sum of five shillings, John Smith son of Francis Smith five shillings ... Dorothy Owston wife all my estate both real and personal estate ... Peter Owston nephew son of Francis Owston the land which is now in my disposing lying in and within the Parish of Sherburn.
