Joseph Wells (Twin)-6972

~This second marriage was performed by a Congrregational minister, a Rev Charles Cook:
From a Newspaper clipping (From Galena?):
"A very Happy but strictly private wedding took place at Mr Hiram Well's Residence in Park City, Utah, April 21 (1890). The Contracting parties being Mr J.F.Wells, of Park City, and Miss Annie Baldwin, of Chicago. The impressive ceremonywas performed at 8:30 pm, by Rev Charles Cook. the brife looked very pretty in Lavender silk, and was the recipient of many beautiful and usful gifts. The young lady is a member of an old galena family, is left here about a year ago, to make her home in Chicago.
Had Joseph lost faith in the LDS church by this time?? Were his Brother William and his wife Elizabeth strong in the faith at the time?? Would they have been happy for it to have occurred, if they were still strong in the faith?? It would be interesting to know thier thoughts at the time.

Twin Brother is Hyrum Wells. Fraternal twins based upon a letter from Annie Baldwin to her mother commenting on how much Joseph and Hyrum look alike, not on how hard it is to tell them apart.
Unknown if the use of the middle name Fell is assumed or given. Death Certificate for Annie T. Baldwin shows his name as Joseph F. Wells. Original birth record does not show a middle initial or name.
Resided: Bradford, Yorkshire, England, then Salt Lake City, Utah (1870 and 1880 Census), then Park City, Utah, then Richfield, Utah (possible visiting his parents). Moved to Chicago in 1891.

From a letter written by Annie Baldwin Wells to her mother on 4/23/1890, Joe has a sister who married a Gibson (Scotsman), had 6 children, one that just died, and lives 4 miles down the road from them in Park City, Utah. Which sister is un-identified. This should be Mary Ann.
From the IGI, a Charles John Gibson is shown as a relative to William Hyrum Wells at his birth in 1883.

Birth Certificate shows his Name as Joseph Wells, born at 1:45 AM on 3/29/1854 at home, 21 North Street, Bradford.

Also incorrectly reported as 3/29/1855.

A handwritten note in an old ledger book states "Joseph F Wells Born in Bradford Yorkshire - Eng - Mar 29 - 1854 11-45 PM" This is incorrect..

Died 10/21 or 10/22 1912. Cause of death was a Stroke (Apoplexy). Cemetery records report cause of death was a Hemmorage on 10/20/1912.

From Annie Baldwin Wells journal, he "dropped dead in the bath room" on 10/21.

From the church bulletin, he died the morning of Oct. 21. Funeral was at the home on 10/22 in the evening, then his body was shipped to Galena.

From a letter to her sister (not Frances, or Emma, or Margaret) on Oct 26, he had gotten up to go to the toilet between 8:30 and 9 AM, all was well. She went down stairs and heard a door slam closed. Returned upstairs and tried to open the bath room door. Could open only a little, and saw him lying on the floor.
Message from source Royce says this actually a Confirmation.

The ships roster shows the following Wells aboard: Alfred, Louis, Henrietta, Hyrum, Joseph, George, Mary Ann, and William. The entry for Louis Wells is beleived not to be part of the family, as their Louis remained in England. This Louis did not appear on the Wagon Train Rosters.

The Wagon Train Journal History roster shows the following Wells, as a family: William (44), Henrietta (41), George (15), Alfred (12), Joseph (9), Hyrum (9), and Mary Ann (6). All were from Bradford. No other Wells are contained on the roster.

Annie Torode "Daisy" Baldwin-7030

The names of Will, Frank, and George are reported to be cousins. These should be the Burgess family.

Cousin to Dave Pate - Not clear in the context if it was Annie Baldwin Wells or MBW Sr. Based upon source Pocket Diary, Emma Baldwin references Cousin Dave and Auntie. Based upon this, Dave Pate is probable a second cousin to MBW and first cousin to Annie Baldwin.

Occupation reported to be Housewife.

From the letters between Annie and her mother:

Married in Joe's rooms at the house. Another letter, she can hear Hyrum, Lizzy & the kids at night when Joe is working. Suspect Joe & Hyrum jointly owned a house.

Cried only once since arriving, that was when Joe was gone before getting married. Another letter indicated she was spending her first spring and early summer in Park City.

Her stove was in Hyrum's rooms at the home

Her furniture had not arrived by the wedding, but was there 10 days later (5/1).

She had been eating at Hyrum's. Sounds like she may have been living there before the wedding.

Not going to fix up the house too much, plan to move to Chicago in a year or 2.

Joe & Hyrum have a restaurant that is being moved or repaired.

Joe reads to her and they call it "going to school". He is a fast learner she states.

She plays the organ. She also paints. Mentions a picture she painted in Hazel Green.

States in a letter that she is glad to have come out (to Park City) for Joe's sake. Also mentions Chicago, implying that was home. Another letter said they would "come home to Chicago".

Mentions altitude of 800 feet (really 8000+) and the shortness of breath. "Miss Wells has been here 3 years and still has trouble. John told ...". Who is John?

6/12/1995
The Jo Daviess County Health Department, Illinois, reported that they do not have any birth records for her. Birth records were not required to be filed until 1916. The County Clerk's office does not have any records prior to 1877.

18 Jan 2003: I have not as yet found this couple on the 1891 Census.

Benjamin Cole-7682

I have the following family, but I do not know how, or if, they fit in:
William Cole and his wife Mary Ann had a son called Cecil Stanley Cole Chr 25 Jan 1891, St Cuthbert, York. They lived at 6, Richmond St, Hallfield Rd, York at the time.
Cecil became a confectioner, and was also a Bombadier in the first world war (R.G.A.)
He married Ellen Hunter probablybefore the start of the first world war, or just after it started.
I have found two children for them:
Marjorie Cole, born 8 Nov 1916 at 54, Hart's Terrace, York, Chr 26 Nov 1916, St Cuthbert's, York.
Stanley Cole, born 14 Sep 1921 (Civil Reg. Index Vol 9d, page 17), York, and Chr 2 Oct 1921, at St Cuthbert's, York.

William and Mary Anne also had two other children:
Arnold James, Chr 5 May 1889 at St Cuthbert's, York,
and Alexander Lawrence Cole Chr 6 Mar 1892 at St Cuthbert's, York.
Throughout these three births the parents lived at 6, Richmond St, Hallfield Rd, York.
William himself was a Confectioner.

~Another family:
Stanley Thomas Cole, 24, unmarried coalminer or 35, Arthur Rd, Mill Hill, Deal, Father = Frederick COle, Deceased
Married 5 Aug 1950, St Suthbert's, York,
Doreen Jane Cornforth, 21, unmarried, of 40 Redeness St, York, Father = Robert, a coal Hawker.
Witnesses Joseph Charles Buckley, and Edith Florence Cornforth.

I also have the following family:
William Cole, Confectioner had a son called Walter Benjamin Cole, a Railway Fireman, born about 1887/8, and lived at 5, Morley St, York. He died 16 Feb 1955, at 81, Water lane, York, aged 67, and was buried 21 Feb 1955 at York Cemetery, grave number 20395, and burial number 115376.
He married 20 Dec 1919 at St Cuthbert, York,
Matilda Ballance, daughter of James Ballance, a winesmith (?). She was born about 1900 according to the marriage certificate, and lived at 24, Price's lane, York.
Witnesses were George Richard Spurr, George Ballance, Agnes Montecristo Caulfield and lily Reynolds.
They had 3 children that I have found so far:
Walter Samuell Cole born 2 Mar 1920, 7 Bilton St, York, Chr 11 Apr 1920 St Cuthbert., York.
George Henry Cole, Born 19 Aug 1921, at 9, Providence Place, York (New Lendal Bridge)
Kathleen Cole born 27 Nov 1924, at 9, Providence Lane, York, Chr 21 Dec 1924, St Cuthbert, York.

Another family of Cole's:
Thomas Lambert Cole born 1810/11 in the Parish of St Cuthbert, York, and his wife Maria Susanna born 1813, in Shoreditch, Middlesex. I found them on the 1881 Census, there were no children or grandchildren living with them, nor any other relatives, or borders etc. I have not found THomas Lambert cole on the IGI as yet, 13 Nov 2001.

Another Family of Cole's:
Harry Clifford Cole married Madge Winifred ...... daughter of .......
and had two children that I know of:

~Derek Cole born 9 Feb 1924 at 20, Second Ave, York, and Chr 16 MAr 1924 at Holy Trinity Heworth, York.

It is possible that there may have been other children in between these two children.
