William Vevers-3532

Hello Brian
Last year I sent you a letter and you telephoned me back and left a message
about the Vevers family. Unfortunately I didn't get your number and this is
the first time I've found your email address.
My comment was about William Vevers born 1811 in Rawcliffe. My ggg-gf was
William Vevers and you have already got details of some of his children.
It's taking forever to get my information updated but I will send you a copy
when I do.
The main problem I have is who my William's parents were, as I do not
believe he was from Rawcliffe at all. There was a William born there but he
was a painter and appears later with a Harriet Sarah fathering seven
children in Rawcliffe, and he appears to die in Goole in 1858. I can't as
yet find his marriage record though.
My William says in the 1851 census that he was born in Leeds. The various
records, marriage, children's baptisms etc have him down as either a book
binder or a book seller. He died in York in 1861. He would have been born
between 1808-1811 judging by several ages given on various records, so the
William from Rawcliffe might look like a candidate, if you've not got the
other details.
I think, though I have no record for this, that he was the son of James
Vevers and Elizabeth Brook. James was born in Hunslet, and I think William
may have been baptised at the Daffil Chapel in Churwell, near Leeds. This
was an offshoot of the New Independent Chapel of Morley. No records exist
for this chapel that I am aware of, though some earlier baptisms of
William's siblings exist for the main chapel. There was an earlier William,
who may have died, who was baptised 1799 (either that or William deducted
10 years off his age). My reasoning is very complex and would take too long
to describe here. It still relies on a bit of guesswork, so that's why I was
interested to see if you had anything more positive to connect to Rawcliffe.
If you reply, can you send it to andrewvevers@environmentalconsultants.co.uk </cgi-bin/compose?curmbox=F000000001&a=9597363469aeda913e46f3b5f5517aec&mailto=1&to=andrewvevers@environmentalconsultants.co.uk&msg=MSG1020289129.21&start=173128&len=3254&src=&type=x>
as I think my subscription for this address may be about to expire.
