General Notes: Arrived with parents in Jan 1860. Mother died when he was about 2, then 10 or 11 when stepmother Mary died. Ran JHB branch of saddlery in Fordsburg in the 1880s. Uncle 'Willie' estranged from his father, divorced from Harriet Higgs 1898 and from Clarissa Mason in 1908. Was involved in a court case with Parker Woods in 1897.
Describes himself as a saddler in application for a hotel managing job, origin of court case. Also described as a farmer. ANC with Harriet Higgs 26/08/1885. Joseph Charles Dalton and Mary Anne Higgs were witnesses. Made ANC with Harriet Higgs 19/08/1885 He was 12 when Olive Starr married his father. Ref to him in CDS' memoirs where he was seen at the Pretoria Market. Birth certificate gives his birthplace as 55 Fossgate, St Crux, York, father's residence as Sheriff Hutton.

According to Eira Makepeace, this couple divorced in 1898 in south Africa. They had a daughter, whose name I do not know.

Notes from Eira Makepeace:
General Notes: Death notice of 6th January 1935 gives him as a retired timber merchant. Clare Storrar's memoirs tell of their running a boarding house in Durban next door to the George Daltons in the 1920s. Married in Barberton. Died in Cato Ridge Nursing home. Address 103 Musgrave Road.
The undertaker's invoice was for £26. Buried in Methodist Block, West St Cemetery A 122.
He worked as a timber merchant.

General Notes: Lived at 66 Musgrave Road, Durban. Died aged 73 years, 5 months in the same year as Natalie Storrar.
Birth date from Cory; entry 746). J. Cameron performed the ceremony. Possibly named after Olive's sister Fanny STARR who may have died in 1869.

I believe that Lily was born in 1883 in Cleator as the
family had moved north for work. Incidentally they moved to Australia
first before re-emigrating to South Africa!

Witnesses to Pinchon marriage were George L Dalton and Bertha Tod or Loch. Minister Frederick Mason, married in private house, Durban.
2nd Marriage:
Second marriage: witnesses A.D. Dalton, Ethel Radford, George Dalton, married in Congregational Church, Musgrave Road, Durban, South Africa.

Died in Nigel Hospital aged 69 years 11 months. Occupation on death notice given as store man. Rene's address on Master's letter gives address: 10 Rossiter Road Dunnottar district.
